As a child up until the age of about 15, David enjoyed hop picking with his family up in Kent and on two occassions he cycled from London to the Hop fields with his cousin Jimmy at the age of 10/11, cycling at least 60 miles each time (the other times he just got on the lorry with the rest of the family).

He had many jobs including at Crown Wallpaper, Midland Bank (as bank messenger), Roofing work with his step dad Charlie, Painting & Decorating and finally as a Manager of Caretakers at the Local Council.

David used to love playing football, he played for 2 of the companies that he worked, Bryant and May and Crown Wallpaper. He was a Left Winger, used both feet, was very fast and hard to catch, being quite little, dodging in and out of players. Once he was asked to play against a semi pro team who had a player from Arsenal’s books (Radford, who went on to end up 24th Greatest Arsenal Player), in this game, David managed to score a goal, which according to Radford was a blinding one.

Margaret was born in Yorkshire where her mother and sister evacuated.
She studied to be a shorthand typist and had her first job working for Cassell & Co – a book publishers in Red Lion Square, Holborn. She then ended up an audio typist, working directly for the manager.
Between having children she did some temping work as an audio typist for many companies all over London, including diamond exporters, fashion house and a pickle factory. She also did some part time work with her mum, where they made boxes and spectacles and she even worked packing tea bags.

Later on in around 1972 Margaret started working for the police as an audio typist. She stayed working with the police for around 24 years, finishing her career at Limehouse Station as a Typing Manager for the CID.

Margaret was a beautiful young woman with a waist size of 22 inches in her 20’s. She entered into competitions, such as Miss Great Britain and Miss Office World but she didn’t get past the heats. However, in 1968 Margaret entered Miss Tower Hamlets Carnival Queen and came 3rd place (Carnival Princess), the following year she entered again and came 3rd again.
Then it was in 1970 that she entered one more time, with her brunette hair dyed blonde and came 1st place (Carnival Queen), she attended carnivals all over like Orpington, Sevenoaks etc, all in aid of charity. She made the local newspapers – The East London Advertiser (Header: Third Time Lucky) and the News of The World (Header: Mirror, Mirror on the Wall, Who’s the Fairest…). It was also recorded that she was the first married woman to ever win this competition. Plus she was a mother of two already.
